Easily Repair Drywall Holes

Amy Newcomer • Jul 20, 2022

Life happens and sometimes the drywall takes a hit resulting in holes that need repair. Thankfully, repairing drywall holes and cracks is an easy home maintenance task you can accomplish in less than an hour. Clean the area needing repair; then apply a drywall patch to the affected area.

Use joint compound to affix the patch using feathering motions to blend it into the wall. Allow the patch to dry. Then, sand the area and reapply the joint compound as needed to patch the hole and blend with the surrounding wall. Once patched, allow it to dry before cleaning off the dust and repainting the room. This is something you can do as part of regular home maintenance or prior to selling your home for maximum value.

As time goes by, the public is becoming progressively more conscious about how their lifestyle impacts the health and wellbeing of the planet. For this reason (and more), eco-friendly homes have become more common. However, just because the home you purchased wasn’t a “green” home, that doesn’t mean you can’t make some eco-friendly improvements. During construction, try to stick to sustainable materials local to your region. You could also install some brand-new energy-efficient appliances and/or solar panels and keep your HVAC system well-maintained and running as efficiently as possible. Be sure to get rid of your old lightbulbs and invest in some energy-efficient bulbs instead. Contact us for a guide on eco-friendly home improvement.

In today’s hyper-connected world, electronics are crucial for pretty much every type of home. What is unnecessary, however, is a tangled mess of cables in every room of your house. Take time to rethink all the piles of wires throughout your home. You could investigate simple cable management options like fasteners, USB charging stations, and Velcro strips to keep cords tidier. You can also use cable storage boxes that not only help you hide unsightly cords, but also provide additional physical protection for your surge protectors and extension boxes. For things like entertainment centers, it may be worth investigating hidden cord systems in your walls for permanent electronic fixtures in your home. Contact us for help keeping your electronics organized more safely and more attractively.

Before you list your home, remember that potential buyers are going to be impacted by their first impression, and no one wants to purchase a house with a worn-down, unappealing image. Landscaping is a simple way to give your home’s overall curb appeal a huge facelift. Try adding height and curves into your landscaping or installing a new irrigation system. It’s also possible to incorporate different pathways into the design, constructed from a material of your choice—brick, colorful concrete, or even stone and moss. Whatever you choose, a fresh landscape can take your home off the market in a snap. Contact us for more landscaping advice before putting your home on the market.

Clean gutters ensure that rainwater drains away from your home effectively. If your gutters become clogged or broken, you could experience expensive water damage in many areas of your home. Take time to regularly check and clean your gutters throughout the year, especially at the beginning of winter when they may be full of fallen leaves. Check for broken brackets and cracks in the gutter troughs. You can also explore gutter protection options, such as sheathing that allows water to enter your gutters while keeping out debris. Contact us if you have any questions or concerns about preserving or improving your home’s gutter system.
